Day 30

Congrats on 30 days of Chasing99!

As you can tell, the last week has been a little busy for us, so i'm running late on uploading my notes from the readings, but I promise to catch up soon.

Also, do not forget your 6 grace days you have built in! Feel free to use them in place of any day's reading so you don't have to double up to catch up.

Day 29

The NIV won't allow more than 500 verses to display at once, so today we get NLT. If you'd like a different translation you can select that on bible gateway by clicking the link to today's reading!

Day 28

Monday, October 5, 2009

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Friday, October 2, 2009

Day 24

READ: 2 Samuel 13-24

CONSIDER: 2 Samuel 16:9 - David surrounded himself with men of action who were fiercely loyal, but even they did not lead David into sin. Abishai was the same guy back in 1 Samuel 26 who counseled David to kill Saul. David always considered what was right, not just what was easy.

ACT: Do you let other people lead you away from what is best? Do you feel entitled or justified at times to do something that is wrong?

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Day 22

READ: 1 Samuel 16-31

CONSIDER: As you read the story of King David, what stands out to you about this 'man after God's own heart'?

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Day 21

CONSIDER: 1 Samuel 3:10 - Samuel's response to the voice of God was clear - "Speak, for your servant is listening."

ACT: Is there anything that could be drowning out God's voice or preventing you from listening? We fill our lives with so many things, but even good things can keep us from the best things.

Monday, September 28, 2009

Day 20

God bless your continued pursuit!

CONSIDER: Ruth 1:16-17 & Ruth 2:12 - This is the blessing that Boaz placed upon Ruth after she had left everything - her home, her family, her friends and her gods to take refuge in God alone.

What is your security? What do you take refuge in?

ACT: Ask God to reveal today if there is anything in your life you are trusting in more than Him.

Sunday, September 27, 2009

Day 19

READ:
Judges 1-13

CONSIDER: Judges 2:10

ACT: How are you helping the next generation know the greatness of God?

Saturday, September 26, 2009

Day 18

READ: Joshua 13-24

CONSIDER: Joshua 24:14

ACT: How can you begin to serve God with your whole heart?

Friday, September 25, 2009

Day 17

Welcome to the Promised Land =]

READ: Joshua 1-12

CONSIDER: Joshua 1:9 Israel had just lost their great leader, Moses, and now they stand on the borders of the land that God had promised them. Standing between them and this beautiful, bountiful land were fortified cities, huge armies and even giants. God then tells Joshua 3 times to 'Be courageous'!

ACT: Live Courageously. Remember that courage is not the lack of fear - it is the simply refusing to be controlled by our fears. It is choosing what is right and best in spite of the obstacles or the circumstances.

Courage is not simply one of the virtues but the form of every virtue at the testing point, which means at the point of highest reality.
-C.S. Lewis

Day 16

Today as you finish Deuteronomy, you will have completed the Torah in 16 days!

CONSIDER: Deuteronomy 30:19-20 In the final address to the people of Israel by Moses, he calls the entire nation of Israel to choose life, and then reminds them that life is found in obeying God. Why do we often view the commands of God as burdens when God's intentions have always been to give us life, and prevent our destruction?

ACT: Examine your life. Are there areas where you view God's commands as difficult to obey? In what way are they a burden to you? Could this response be immaturity, lack of understanding or simply lack of faith on your part?

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Day 15

READ: Deuteronomy 12-23

CONSIDER: Deuteronomy 17:18-20; kings of Israel were required to write out their own copy of God's law and read it every day as long as they lived for 5 reasons:

  1. the reading of God's Word would teach the king to fear & respect God.
  2. the reading of God's Word would teach the king to obey God.
  3. the regular reading of God's Word would teach the king humility.
  4. the reading of God's Word would prevent the kings heart from turning away from God.
  5. the reading of God's Word would ensure blessing for the kings descendants.

ACT: Chasing99 has been a considerable challenge for each of us, but also very rewarding! We know that God's Word never returns empty, reveals truth, and will last forever, so today take a few moments to share how focusing and committing to God's Word has impacted you.

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Day 14

READ: Deuteronomy 1-11

CONSIDER: Deuteronomy 4:20 As God rescued Israel from the slavery to Egypt, he also rescued us from the bondage of sin for one purpose - so we could be His!

ACT: Worship God today. As you consider what God has done for you, let your heart overflow with love for Him.

Monday, September 21, 2009

Day 13

READ:
Numbers 25-36

CONSIDER: Numbers 35:34 - God states that he lives among the Israelites. For those who know Jesus as their Savior, the Spirit of God lives not just among them, but within them!

ACT: How should your words and actions today reflect the Spirit of God that lives within you?

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Day 12

READ:
Numbers 13-24

CONSIDER: Genesis 48:17-20 & Numbers 13:8, 16 - Joshua and Caleb were the only faithful spies who trusted God as they spied out the land of Canaan. Joshua the son of Nun, was the descendant of Ephriam, the son of Joseph who had received the blessing from Jacob (Israel). Our faithfulness and God's blessings effect not only our family today, but our descendants for generations!

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Day 11

READ:
Numbers 1-12

CONSIDER: Numbers 11:21:23 - Moses was thinking of only what was humanly possible. Why do we so often limit God's power in our lives? God's response to Moses "Has my arm lost its power?"

ACT: Examine your life today for areas where you may be limiting God, and today begin to exercise faith and trust in those areas. The LORD's arm has not lost its power, and proving our faith pleases God!

Blessing from today's reading:

The LORD bless you
and keep you;

the LORD make his face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;

the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace.

Friday, September 18, 2009

Day 10

READ: Leviticus 19-27

CONSIDER: Leviticus 22:32 - It is God who makes us holy.

ACT: During your prayer time today, thank God that holiness is not dependent on our human effort. While we strive for holiness, even on our best days we stumble and fall. Yet, because of what Christ has done, God has sanctified us and set us apart as holy.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Day 9

CONSIDER: Leviticus 10:1-3 The perfect Holiness of God was revealed. Aaron, the mouthpiece of God, the spokesperson given to Moses, stood in silence.

ACT: Watch the video below on The Awe Factor Of God by Francis Chan.

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Day 8

One week is complete! How has your journey been so far? Remember you have 6 grace days built into your schedule that you can use anytime in place of a reading day.

CONSIDER: Leviticus 1:4 - The transferring of sin, and the substitutionary sacrifice of animals was life (blood) for death (sin). This purification process allowed the Israelites to be right with God, and was a foreshadowing of the transfer of our sin to Jesus Christ. This is shown in His substitutionary death in our place on the Cross to bring us into right standing with God. Our sin, guilt and death was place on Jesus, and His perfect righteousness and innocence was given to us in exchange.

ACT: Remember what God has done. His provision has allowed us to know Him and have relationship with Him. Today spend time in prayer thanking Him for the great sacrifice of His son.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

Day 7

READ: Exodus 29-40

CONSIDER:
Exodus 29:45, Exodus 30:6 - God literally dwelled among them, and met with His people. He did not send an angel, but He Himself came!

ACT: Respond to God's presence today by worshiping Himwith your life. Because of what Christ has done, we do not need the Tabernacle or Temple anymore - we can meet with God anytime, anywhere!

Monday, September 14, 2009

Day 6

READ: Exodus 16-28

CONSIDER:
Exodus 20:6 - God will lavish His Unfailing Love for a thousand generations of those who obey Him.

ACT: Learn to obey God - not out of compulsion or fear of punishment - but to show how much we love God in response to the great love He has revealed for us!

Sunday, September 13, 2009

Day 5

READ: Exodus 1-15

CONSIDER: Exodus 1:8 - When the new King came to power in Egypt, he didn't know who Joseph was, or what he had done.

ACT: Live Righteously. We cannot rely on others to reveal the love, mercy and grace of God, each generation must live it out.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Day 4

CONSIDER: Genesis 45:4-5, Genesis 50:20 - Twice Joseph recognizes that what his brothers meant for evil, God ordained to preserve life.

ACT: Trust God. Whatever God allows into our life is meant for good, not evil (Romans 8:28-29). With this perspective, how should we view suffering and difficulty in our life?

Friday, September 11, 2009

Day 3

READ: Genesis 27-38

CONSIDER: Genesis 28:16 - How often is God with us and we don't even realize it?

ACT: Focus on the constant presence of God in your life today. Let your words, thoughts, and actions reflect that He is always with us.

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Day 2

CONSIDER: Genesis 17:23 - "On that very day." Abraham was a man of immediate action. He didn't wait or hesitate when God told him to do something. Lot, on the other hand, was completely different. You see him hesitating (19:16) and even questioned God's instructions (19:18-20). This explains why Lot was visited by angels (19:1) and Abraham was visited by the Lord Himself!

Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of our 99 day journey! If you have feedback or suggestions, please let us know! Our desire is to make this tool as effective as possible in helping you successfully complete your 99 day pursuit of God.

READ: Genesis chapters 1-14

CONSIDER: Do you recognize sin as a predator waiting to devour, or do you casually allow it to enter your life?

ACT: Make a list of things in your life that you know are crouching at the door, waiting to devour you. As we begin our 99-day pursuit of God, commit to cast off these sins that would slow and entangle us!
